The Rain Watcher A Novel Tatiana de Rosnay Books

I don't understand how this book earned so many glowing reviews. The story, thin as it is, is mysterious with no payoff. Questions are asked, never answered. Plot points started, then abandoned. The result is a story that's pointless, tedious and boring. Finishing it was a challenge, but I kept believing something noteworthy was about to happen on the next page. No such luck. The tale is basically a slog through hundreds of pages of overlapping descriptions of a rain storm, interspersed with a handful of limp human beings who never develop into actual characters. The hazy plot is abandoned before it develops into anything. Then it abruptly ends.

The Rain Watcher A Novel Tatiana de Rosnay Books Reviews

This author has been one of my favorites since "Sarah's Key" but this eagerly awaited book was a dismal disappointment. While sometimes leaving the conclusion to the reader's imagination is an clever conceit, in this instance it was an utter failure. The characters were neither interesting nor sympathetic and the story was dull and repetitive.
I admit once I start a book I have to finish it but I didn't like this book at all. I didn't like the back story about the son and it ended terrible. I did enjoy learning about the flooding in Paris I googled images and I read more on that subject but over all I was expecting something different from this author
Sarah's Key stayed with me for such a long time. I couldn't start another book for weeks. I couldn't wait to start reading The Rain Watcher. It has been such a disappointment. Why the fixation with dates? Over and over, useless dates! Why did she have to describe Linden's unhappiness so many times, going on and on? Why the unfinished and abrupt ending? Why was this book so recommended?
Having read other book by this author, I was excited to see The Rain Watcher available. It put me to sleep as I struggled to get through it. Most of this read was endless thoughts and reflections of the son and his relationships with his sister, mother and dying father. Difficult narrative, just went on and on, did not keep my interest. The descriptions of the streets of Paris flooding were descriptive but repetitive. Didn’t like the ending, it was flat and left me puzzled. Disappointing read. I gave it 1 star for the jacket on the cover of the book, otherwise I would rate it 0.
A rising Seine River, two ailing parents, one whose passion is trees and the other with secrets. I kept waiting for the plot to gather speed but nothing. The ending???? Disappoiinted
"Will leave you spellbound, transformed...swept away". Not sure what book this person read for which they felt these powerful words were an appropriate description but here are my words...left me with $20 less money, left me with a day wasted and wishing had the offer of ZERO stars on their reviews!!! This was one of the worst books I have ever read or more appropriately "skimmed" because eventually that is what I was doing. There are so many references to dates and years...for what?!! Why?!! The storyline is...well...what storyline?! There is no dimension to the characters, there really is pretty much no story and just nothing here that inspires a positive review. Don't waste your time or money on mundane...and that is truly what this is...mundane.
Without doubt, this book was entirely out of place for an American audience. The author inundated the book with French words, phrases, names, etc. Why would anyone care about all of the various French streets with are mentioned as being under water. If you don't know Paris, it is a total waste of time and space to go on and on about all things French during a flood.

I was so looking forward to this book after "Sarah's Key" but was sorely disappointed in the entire book. Truly a waste of time to read. A boring and pointless story. I cannot believe the Editor even bothered to put this book on the market.

Tatiana wasted her time and all of ours with this horrible little extremely boring book.

I will not read her books again, if there are any. She needs to stay in France and stop writing.
